 1.       “Arable crops and mixed crop-pasture based systems and crop-livestock interactions at field and farm level”
Where: “La Estanzuela”, which is a 105 years old experimental station of INIA, located nearby Colonia del Sacramento (around 180 km West of Montevideo).

Organized by: Scientists from the National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) and the Faculty of Agronomy (Universidad de la República)

Led by: Dr. Andrés Quincke, Dr. Andrés Berger and Prof. Oswaldo Ernst

Main Activity: This field day will firstly offer visiting these ongoing projects on mixed systems, and will then lead to a session of presentations to analyse and discuss aspects that are relevant for the design of sustainable farming systems.

2.       “Pasture based dairy farm systems: opportunities and challenges to improve their biophysical, economic and environmental performance”

Where: INIA La Estanzuela (Colonia)

Organized by: Researchers from Faculty of Agronomy (Universidad de la República) and the National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA)

Led by: Dr. Santiago Fariña and Prof. Pablo Chilibroste

Main Activity: Discuss the design of future sustainable dairy farming systems in different regions of the world.
The workshop will comprise an on-farm visit to farmlet and whole-farm studies in INIA La Estanzuela (Colonia) followed by scientificpresentations about farm-system design approaches from different regions of the world and concluding with a general discussion.

3.       “Ecological intensification of animal production systems: the case of beef production based on natural grasslands”

Where: “Sierras del Este”, located around 180 km East of Montevideo

Main Activity: Visit two beef production farms based on natural grasslands. Farm visits will be combined with a scientific session in which alternatives for ecological intensification of animal production systems will be presented and discussed.

4.       “Participatory design of ecologically intensive family farm systems”

Where: Two vegetable farms 50 km from Montevideo and “Wilson Ferreira Aldunate” INIA research station in Las Brujas (30 km from Montevideo).
